European Society for Vascular Surgery: Annual Meeting 2017

The ESVS has the pleasure and honour to welcome you to the 31st ESVS Annual meeting in Lyon from 19 till 22 September 2017. The choice for Lyon was made on the assets of the city but also for the quality of the services of the Congress Centre, which is now one of the most important congress centres in Europe.

Allying history and modernity, Lyon is also the capital of the gastronomy. Historic crossroads at the heart of Europe, near the Alps, between the vineyards of Beaujolais and Burgundy in the North and Côtes du Rhône in the South, the town is easily accessible by air and by train. The hotel offer is the second greatest in France, after Paris. The main big international chains are represented, all close to the Congress Centre and easily accessible by foot, bicycle or tramway.

The Congress Centre, on the border of the Park de la Tête d’Or and the Rhône, is at the heart of the city only 10 minutes from the historic centre. The Renzo Piano’s modern architecture of the Congress Centre offers big possibilities in the layout of the exhibition and the organisation of satellite meetings, workshops or product demonstrations. The logistics and the very high-technology equipment will allow answering to all your demands.

The scientific programme will provide Vascular Surgeons and other Vascular Specialists with a four-day meeting on the most up to date information about new developments in clinical practice and relevant research. In Copenhagen (2016) 623 abstracts were submitted and we could only accept less than 10%, which was a pity since the scientific quality and innovative interest has increased considerably since we waived the compulsory publication in our journal (EJVES).

In Lyon, we will have a more “inclusive” approach accepting 13 abstracts directly and another 160 abstracts for short oral presentation in four parallel sessions on day one, selecting the best 48 of those for the coming plenary sessions, thus combining an inclusive approach to maintaining the highest quality in the plenary sessions. We will also accept 100 poster presentations. We are confident that this more inclusive approach will increase the number of participants compared to previous meetings.

Another feature for Lyon is the fact that three new Guidelines to be published in 2017, and they will be discussed in detail. Keynote lectures will be integrated into the program. Furthermore, the World Federation of Vascular Surgery will have its meeting in Lyon and a very interesting session called “Vascular Surgery in the Era of Terror” will compile the global experience on the challenges that these terrible events create for our speciality, and how we can contribute to taking care of the victims.

Thus, important updates and re-evaluations of the latest technologies and techniques, pharmaceutical agents, radiation protection, diagnostic modalities, and data from clinical trials will be presented and discussed. A variety of ESVS workshops will be available.

The target audience will be mostly consultants and trainees in vascular surgery, including the most important decision makers of Europe, but also interventional radiologists, vascular medicine specialists, vascular nurses and technologists, and all others interested in the management of vascular disease.

We look forward to welcoming you to Lyon and are certain that you will enjoy the scientific programme and the networking possibilities with the present and future leaders of vascular health care in Europe.
