Welcome to the Alpine FRCS Part III Course, which is set in an exclusive away from it all location in Alpen Village, Livigno,Italy where we hope you will find the right balance between intensive revision, plentiful viva practice and the joys of fresh mountain air. We moved this year from Les Arcs to Livigno for better conference facilities and we are excited by what looks like a great new destination.
Each day of the Alpine course commences with a buffet breakfast, followed by four hours of subspecialty seminars. This is followed by a three/four hour break (will vary), and is the only spare time before around 11pm. Previous delegates have placed a high value on the opportunities for distraction-free private study during the afternoon break, and others have decided to “clear the head” with a few hours outdoors. Thereafter follows a daily viva practice session through till dinner, and after dinner there are subspecialty evening tutorials. Over the six days the group will face over 170 vivas, and receive around 36 hours of intensive exam-specific tuition. The clinical exams are simulated with clinical photographs and a wide span of radiological images. There is also the unquestionable and unique benefit of a ‘captive faculty’, providing opportunity for individual informal consultation.
Each and every viva is conducted and marked as it would be in the examination, and there is provision of individually tailored feedback and a ‘viva surgery’ to help you ascertain areas of weakness and improve. On the last day there is a multispecialty scenario-based emergency surgery seminar, to round off the exam preparation.
The core faculty members have a vast experience in teaching and examining at this level. Some are past examiners and others are founder members of the course with considerable experience in viva examination at the level seen in the examinations. The faculty numbers are calculated and maintain a high faculty: delegate ratio. This course has been successfully running for the past 12 years.
NB. WE ARE ABLE TO CATER FOR VASCULAR TRAINEES WHO WILL BE TAKING THE NEW FRCS VASCULAR EXAM. IF YOU WANT TO DISCUSS THIS MORE, PLEASE LET US KNOW BY CONTACTING OUR ADMIN TEAM ON ADMIN@SURGICALCOURSES.COM
