The Rouleaux Club aims to represent all doctors training in Vascular Surgery, regardless of grade or seniority, including those wanting to train and medical students. We want everyone to be able to thrive in their roles regardless of race, ethnicity, age, faith, gender, sexual orientation or disability. We strive to be inclusive to our current members and to invite those not yet involved to join so that we can work together to advocate for training and welfare issues.

Following the success of previous years, the Rouleaux Club, in collaboration with the Vascular Society, is proud to open nominations for the third annual Averil Mansfield Award for Vascular Trainer of the Year 2026.
High-quality surgical training remains fundamental to developing the next generation of vascular surgeons. Despite escalating service pressures across the NHS, many trainers continue to go well beyond contractual expectations to deliver outstanding teaching, mentorship, and advocacy for trainees. This award exists to formally recognise those individuals whose commitment has a sustained and meaningful impact on trainee development.
The standard was set last year by Jonathan Ghosh, who was named Trainer of the Year, reflecting the calibre of leadership, educational rigour, and personal investment the award seeks to honour.
Named in tribute to Averil Mansfield, a pioneer of vascular surgery and a lifelong champion of surgical education, the award celebrates trainers who embody her legacy: academic excellence, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to nurturing future surgeons.
Nominations are open to all trainees (CT1 and above) and locally employed doctors. Nominate your trainer here — the deadline is Wednesday 30 July 2026.
